My heart has held a very special place for Missy since the first time I held her as an infant over 20 years ago! My darling cousin married Chris, the love of her life, a month ago on a GORGEOUS Portland afternoon at Krueger's Farm on Sauvie Island amongst their beloved family and friends. Their day was perfect. I am SO VERY HAPPY for these two and can't wait to see them grow in life and love together. Thank you SO MUCH, Uncle Ken, Aunt Aimee, Jess, Ben, Missy and Chris - enjoy the Slideshow - and I can't wait for the "month after" portrait session we get to do next time you're in town!

KKP (Kate Kelly Photograph) is the proud owner of a brand spankin' new set of hot walkie talkies! How sweet is that? Now at weddings Angie (or one of my other fabulous second shooters) and I can communicate - often I'm with the bride while she's getting ready and Angie is with the groom, or vice versa. They'll be MOST useful in cases where brides and grooms don't want to see each other before the ceremony. They also will come in handy at our next MINI SESSIONS (October - stay tuned for details). I can shoot away until I hear the STOP command loud and clear from Angie! This is so funny but practical... we're stoked! Maybe we can find hot holsters or something for them! What do you think? Christine and Wes’s most beautiful ceremony was held at the mother of the bride’s gorgeous home in Lafayette, California in April. Their family and close friends helped them celebrate their union at the backyard reception complete with divine food, flowers, wine and espresso – naturally! My Beloved Sister and her Beloved Dave!

My beautiful sister Jen and her fabulous fiancee Dave were recently in town for our dear Cousin Missy's wedding (yes, I photographed, will be on the blog next week!!!). We shot their e-session at the scene of the crime - where it all began! Their first date started out at Starbucks. They each liked what they saw in each other so they then extended the date beyond coffee. They headed across the street to The Baghdad Theater and caught a film. Since it was still going so well, Jen and Dave walked down to Hawthorne Cafe for a meal. That evening was the first of many dates and the start of their beautiful relationship.

They will be married at CalNeva Resort on the California Nevada border in July and I'm honored to photograph AND serve as co-maid of honor with our sister, Claire. Dave and Jen, I love you guys and can't wait to see you next month! Enjoy your Slideshow!

Mini Sessions and Cystic Fibrosis

Angie and I have been buzzing around offloading the GORGEOUS images from last weekend's two fabulous weddings! And we've been finalizing the mini session processing.... we're SO EXCITED with how things turned out! Below are a few favorites - but stay tuned for MORE.

And last night we photographed the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's annual Chef's Dinner gala at the Oregon Convention Center. Photos in a few weeks! I'm THRILLED to hear the event raised over $75,000 for such an absolutely wonderful cause!

Tony and I photographed Sara and Ryan's wedding Saturday at the Pelican Pub and surprisingly had AMAZING weather! It was a glorious day all around - Sara and Ryan were stunning and had such a special day! I'll blog more in about four weeks when the images are ready! Simone and Angie held the fort down in Portland and photographed Christiane and Curt's wedding at Jenkens Estate in Beaverton Saturday, too!

Tony and I are taking a few days of R&R and have been having a wonderful time exploring driftwood beaches, sampling Pinot Noir and fresh, local seafood, cooking and reading - it's been wonderfully relaxing after an extremely busy month!

My baby brother Tommy and his beautiful wife Bridgett (who were married last year) just welcomed their beautiful baby boy this morning around 6am! Thomas Leo Ruth is rumored to be just beautiful - I'm waiting to see photos! He weighed in at 7 pounds 2 oz. and is 19 inches long. I just can't WAIT to meet him! Congratulations Tommy and Bridgett (and Jayden too!) - I love you and will come visit soon!

Stacey + Greg's Engagement Session

It's certainly the season for engagement sessions (and weddings and family portrait sessions, too!) and it was great meeting Greg and seeing Stacey again the other week! I met Heather and Greg when they contacted me over two years ago inquiring about wedding photography. I was lucky for the opportunity to photograph their beautiful wedding at the Chinese Gardens... and even luckier to make a lifelong friend in Heather. Since we met a few short years ago, Heather and I have been through a LOT together. I think the WORLD of Heather and Greg - they are two of the coolest, kindest friends I have... and I couldn't be more thrilled for their bundles of joy who should make their appearance in the next month! Michelle and Tim are a match made in heaven and we had so much fun during their recent engagement session! Michelle is as lovely as possible and Tim has the BEST sense of humor! This is apparent if you spend even a MINUTE with him, and I've had the pleasure of getting to know him a bit when photographing (he was a groomsmen) at Kristy and Steve's wedding a few years back! Back to the session - I, of course, love to photograph couples in locations significant to them and their relationship, and since Michelle LOVES gardening and flowers and since they visit the Vancouver Farmers Market most weekends (weather permitting) we decided that Esther Short Park and the Vancouver Farmers Market would be the perfect setting for Michelle and Tim's engagement session! Just got home from a whirlwind trip to Southern California - my dear friend Sue and I visited our dear (and pregnant with twin girls!!!!) friends Amy and Andy in Redlands! They just moved into a lovely new home - it was especially fun to see the girls' pink and black room... can't wait to visit again once Grace and Faith are born! Along with catching up with Amy and Sue, a highlight was giving Andy and Amy their belated shower gift - four tiny, gorgeous vintage dresses I picked up at Flutter (designed by Frocky Jack Morgan) several months ago, not even knowing Amy was carrying TWO GIRLS (but secretly hoping)! While there I photographed Dr. Amy's third year residents in action at three Inland Empire area hospitals -- assisted by fabulous Sue -- and also did a super fun maternity shoot for Amy and Andy in an orange grove! Stay tuned for photos soon! As I just got home, I haven't even downloaded the cards yet, but Tony (who I got to spend a day and a half with) grabbed this fun shot of the three amigos....Tomorrow Angie and I are headed to Eugene for Matt and Marie's wedding - can't wait, it's going to be fabulous! And it will be so fun to see the Keever Family again, too!

Matt + Jenni in Hawaii!!!!

The fabulous Matt and Jenni were married at Hawaii's Ko'Olau Golf Club, the toughest golf course in the nation, and might I say one of the most beautiful places in the nation as well! Tony and I were treated so very well by Matt, Jenni and their wonderful families the entire time we were there! We stayed at The Hilton Hawaiian Villageand had a simply amazing time meeting Matt and Jenni's friends and family, participating in wedding activities and exploring Oahu. In honor of Mother's Day, I wanted to post a quick favorite from my mini-Maternity session with my dear friends, Heather and Greg, who are expecting their twins in about eight weeks! A favorite aspect of my work is having the opportunity to meet so many wonderful families.... and it was such a treat meeting little miss Corinne, her parents, adorable cousins, auntie and grandparents! We began their session in their gorgeous backyard on an uncharacteristically super bright, Portland April afternoon without a cloud in the sky. To avoid squints and unflattering shadows, we did a lot of the shoot in Diana and Michael's beautiful home. I especially love some of the images of baby Corinne on the couch - such great light and a true environmental portrait! Saturday afternoon I met up with my friend Lisa at her beautiful new condo... she made amazing Japanese cherry tea for us! Not only was it delicious, her presentation was so cute it inspired me to take some photos! I had my camera gear with me as our visit took between two (really cool) photo sessions I had that day (a fun e-session at the farmer's market and a killer housewarming party). Missing Cell Phone!

I made a poor decision this evening and photographed with my cell phone in the pocket of my jean jacket. The shoot went really well, Trevor is such a nice, easygoing and cute (if I may say so) high school senior! As I was heading back to my car after our session on the waterfront, I noticed my phone was missing. Trevor was so sweet and insisted on retracing our steps with me while dialing my number over and over in attempt to hear the ring. No luck. If you've been trying to call me, chances are you're using my cell phone, the only personal and business number I've used for years. The Herbigs and the Herchls are so much fun!

I had an absolute BLAST photographing the lovely Herchl family. My friends Amy & Terry Herbig gifted their dear friends John, Jennifer and their little guy Carson with a photo session - they all live in Seattle and came down to Portland for the shoot. Of COURSE it was FREEZING and rainy at times - but that didn't stop us! We started in their funky, colorful suites at Northrup Station which was a FABULOUS place to shoot - I was in heaven! Once the weather mellowed out a bit we went outside. All the kiddos were just fabulous and adorable. John and Jen, it was fantastic meeting you and your adorable Carson, and Amy and Terry, ALWAYS such a pleasure - Emerson and Trenton are amazing.... thanks to you all and enjoy the Slideshow!

As some of you know, one of my dreams recently came true... I now have a Studio Manager to help me run Katie Jervis Photography (soon to be Kate Kelly Photography)! Angie is a dream come true! She began working with me one day a month in September, and as of March, she's been working 30 hours per week! Angie has a brilliant personality, a creative eye, passion for photography and is highly efficient and organized. She is helping me bring structure to the studio, catch up on projects I'm behind on and is taking care of so many day-to-day tasks! Our goal is to provide the very best service and experience possible! Many of you may recognize her - Angie and Aaron were married in Negril, Jamaica in May of 2007 and I was fortunate enough to be their photographer! The other week both Ashley and Josh were in town so we scheduled their e-session! Of course it poured all morning - because of crazy schedules, we decided to power through and were going to do the session in my home studio utilizing some gorgeous natural light I have going on! Sure enough, it cleared up right as they arrived, so we ended up shooting both in my home studio AND around my neighborhood!

Angie and I had the privilege of documenting Natalie and Sean's wedding day on January 19th. It was a blustery, rainy day but wouldn't you know it, we had some amazing rain breaks which allowed us to go outside for some gorgeous natural light mini-portrait sessions! Because Natalie and Sean live in NYC, I hadn't had the opportunity to meet them prior to the wedding. When I first saw Natalie the morning of her wedding I was taken aback by her beauty - she and Sean make the most stunning couple and are SO FUN and KIND to boot! They had a lovely ceremony at St. Patricks in NW Portland followed by an AMAZING party/celebration at the Governor Hotel downtown. Have I mentioned lately how much I LOVE my job? Thanks SO MUCH, Natalie and Sean - you are a fabulous couple and I wish you the very best!

Portraits of my dear friends

This past weekend five lifelong friends and my dear sister Claire (who all live in California - Orange County, San Luis Obispo, San Jose, San Francisco and the Central Valley) came up to Oregon for a girls weekend/sisters reunion. Amy, Jessica and I have been closest of friends since infancy... and we ALL have younger sisters, who are also close friends. The seven of us have so many wonderful childhood memories together - it's truly a special connection we share. They all arrived at my home Thursday night - of course we stayed up chatting until after 3am! After a leisurely morning, we headed out to the coast and rented a lovely home at Bella Beach where we caught up on life, laughed, reminisced, watched old home videos, took turns cooking meals (each set of sisters had an assigned meal), soaked in the hot tub, enjoyed good wine, walked on the beach, etc. We also had an evening beach sisters photo session - check out the Slideshow

Those of you who know me well know I have a slight obsession with brooches. It borders on the unhealthy. When I recently met with the designers who are going to help re-brand my studio (I will soon be Kate Kelly Photography!!! so stay tuned for exciting updates and a fresh, fabulous new look) they asked me to identify a few things I love. Some of my answers were red lipstick, letterpress cards, anything Anthropologie sells, and brooches - especially vintage brooches. They're so delicate and colorful and pretty and stylish. I ADORE these two... it's such a privilege being Auntie Katie! Mom Amy is like a sister to me.... "Through the Years!" Many of my favorite college memories include Amy, her beater car (The Dart), my beater car (Martin, the '77 Chevy Impala), road trips to Chehalis, John Denver, sprained ankle incidents, trying not to laugh in church, the list goes on. Away from the studio - in Tampa!

The Professional Photographers of America convention, Imaging USA, is being held in Tampa, Florida this year and I'm going! My flight departs Portland tomorrow at 6:30 a.m. (no, haven't begun packing as per my usual style) and I'll return to the studio on January 11th. I have the honor of helping represent my very favorite album company, Laguna Albums (www.LagunaAlbums.com) at the convention's trade show. Laguna Albums is the best digital flush mount album company out there.... I've been a thrilled customer for the past two years! I'm super excited to be going on this trip... photography seminars/information, Laguna Albums promotion, meeting friends old and new AND spending time with my favorite guy (Tony Bisson - http://www.bissonweddings.com/) in the sunny and beautiful city that is Tampa - what could be better? Alexis + Stephen

I had the privilege of documenting Alexis and Steve's wedding day and it couldn't have been more fabulous. My last wedding of the calendar year - talk about going out in style! I fell in love with Alexis and Steve the first time I met them - they love each other so much, have this amazing energy and seem to ALWAYS have a blast together. Oh, and they're hot! ;-) So, they tied the knot November 3rd - it was a glorious, rain free day and the autumn leaves were in full glory. I always LOVE when I get to begin photo coverage at the salon - and Alexis' salon of choice was Vis a Vis - they did an amazing job! After beautification, the gang headed over the hotel... then first look and portraits in the beautiful park blocks. We had stunning light - I, of course, was thrilled and had a BALL. Alexis and Stephen are so much fun and so are their friends and family - made my job so easy! After group portraits we had a few minutes downtown for some urbanish portraits with Alexis and Stephen... could have photographed them for hours longer but we had to get to the church of course! Their ceremony at The First Unitarian Church was very special. Following the ceremony, the party started at the Acadian Ballroom in North Portland. The newlyweds and the photo/video team did another brief photo session on Alberta - we pretty much got run out of the first bar we went into but found a welcoming second. Anyway, back to the party at the Acadian... so much fun... guests thoroughly enjoyed themselves - Alexis and Stephen, you know h0w to throw a party! Thank you SO MUCH - it's been a true pleasure getting to you know you and working with you. Here's your Slideshow! Happy Holidays! Sarah + Paul

Another absolutely amazing couple, another absolutely amazing wedding to document! Sarah and Paul were married on a gorgeous evening in September on the rooftop of the EcoTrust building in the Pearl District! I died and went to heaven that day! The details were smashing - think vintagey and letterpress inspired. Other unique elements included an old typewriter which graced the guestbook table, lots of lovely hops decorating the wedding site, individual mini wedding cakes for each guest table, organic, local pizza and salads for dinner a-la Hot Lips Pizza, the list goes on. The bridesmaids were stunning in their rich brown dresses and hot boots - and Sarah was an angel. Her Nicole Miller dress, brown boots, vintage locket (gift from her parents) and net blusher couldn't have been more perfect... she was a dream! Sarah and Paul have been together for years but you'd think by watching them that they'd just met. Their love story is inspiring. Speaking of inspiring, they are currently traveling and working in New Zealand - what a great adventure! Sarah and Paul, thank you so much for everything - enjoy your Slideshow! Oh and to my loyal blog readers out there (you know who you are!), check back soon for Sarah and Paul's Day After session! They opted for one in lieu of many wedding-day portraits. The fabulous Alexis of Jasmine Photography and I tag teamed on this one! Sierra's Birth Story!

What to say about this day, about this couple??? Mike and Amanda are amazing, kind, creative, original, resourceful, talented and their wedding celebration reflected as much. What an honor it was to play a part in their day by documenting! The weather was stellar. The details were gorgeous. Their outfits unique, fun and beautiful. Everyone was so very kind. Their vows made me cry. The choreeographed interpretive first dance was one of the coolest things I've ever seen...then the dance party was on! The Donway Family!

I recently went to the coast to photograph the fabulous Donways in their favorite location - Pacific City! We battled the cold, rain and wind and despite the dreary weather, everyone seemed to have fun - good sports all around! Speaking of sports, this clan is all about the Red Socks as you'll see... AND the final game of the world series was being played the afternoon of our session! I was rooting for the Angels, unfortunately for me. We all know how that one ended! Anyway, I had a blast with this family. If you recognize them it's because Cari was one of my brides - she and PJ were married at the fabulous Pelican Pub last December! Away from the studio and Thanksgiving...

I'm heading off to California to visit friends and family for Thanksgiving - looking so forward to quality time with loved ones! I depart early tomorrow (yikes, in just a few hours and I haven't even thought about packing!!) and return late the 26th. Back in action on the 27th... watch for lots of blog updates that week! While in California, my sister Claire and I are hosting a shower for our sister Jen, who's getting married next summer in Reno! Yes, I'm photographing, and yes I'm also a co-maid of honor! Lucky for me I have amazing photographer friends so I know for sure I'll have a killer second shooter covering the ceremony for me while I'm standing up for my sister! Anyway, here are two photos of the fabulous Jen and her awesome husband-to-be, Dave!

Happy Thanksgiving!!! I know I sure have a lot to be thankful for - my list is long but includes good health, amazing friends (new, lifelong and somewhere in-between), a fabulous career which I love, awesome family, new beginnings, computers, Canon 5Ds and L-Series Lenses, blogs, slideshows, wonderful clients, coffee, my VitaMix, my Subaru, my craftsman house, my electric blanket, old photographs, childhood memories... I could go on and on....

Emily and Brett are beautiful inside and out and working with them has been such a pleasure! They were married at the Portland Temple August 24th - a beautiful day - and their reception was held at Persimmon Golf Course. What can I say about a couple as special as Laura and Shawn? They are amazingly nice, amazingly funny, amazingly genuine... they are part of an amazing community - the list goes on and on. Their wedding day was quite special. The ceremony was held in a family friend's magical backyard. Following the ceremony the fabulous party, held at another family friend's home, came complete with a swimming pool, mac 'n cheese, mini PBJ sandwiches, snow cones, a bouncing castle, lemonade stand - the kid theme was perfect, especially given all of the special little ones in their lives! When I was in Seattle this summer I visited my rockin' friend Amy (http://www.blonde-ambition.biz/) and met her hubby Terry and little guy Emerson.
